The reconstructed scene carefully handcrafted through small details enables us to transcend the physical realms of reality, by means of mise-en-scene, in a tense dichotomy between reality and fiction, between truth and verisimilitude. Thus, the camera click becomes only one of the necessary steps towards the final result, an essential step yet insufficient by itself...
In contrast with countless cases where photography embraces in fact a diary-like form, time and setting seem to flow backwards in Delle Donne’s work. The scene faded long time ago, leaving only a memory with all its uncertainties and all sorts of superimpositions. The photograph remains nothing more than the evidence of an attempt, the evidence of a reconstruction, enabling us to perceive feelings, emotions, and moods behind the shots, thus conceding us a closer bond with the female model, and offering us a glimpse of an inner and intimate alphabet of the person portrayed.
Arturo Delle Donne has immortalized prominent faces pertaining to the world of culture, show business, cinema and art in general, among which we must mention Bertolucci, Emir Kusturica, Peter Greenaway, Mario Monicelli and last but not least Wim Wenders and Pope Francis.
The collection
